עַם פֶּסַח

Passover People begin Exodus 12

  1. The first Passover is a critical moment in the Biblical History of Isra’el.
  2. That moment is recorded only in the Scriptures of Isra’el. Archeology offers no evidence that the events of Exodus took place.
  3. Isra’el was chosen by God to be His people. Isra’el was twelve substantial tribes by the time they were enslaved in Egypt, over 3,000 years ago.
  4. Their God heard their appeal and rescued them from Egypt. The night he rescued them has come to be known as Passover.
  5. Exodus 12 says God required Isra’el to keep the Passover  every year on the same date, so
  6. Passover remains a Memorial to God’s rescue of Isra’el from Egypt to this day.
  7. By the day of Jesus, the Jews were all that was left of Isra’el.
  8. Jesus the Jew, along with most other Jews, obediently kept the memorial meal of Passover, in line with the teaching of Scripture [Ex12:14, Lev23, Lk22:13-15, Mt26, Mk14, Jn2:13].
  9. This annual Memorial, still kept by the Jews today, is the strongest evidence we have for trusting the account in the Book of Exodus.
  10. We must handle Exodus and the available historical materials with care.
  11. There are three sources of evidence for the first Passover: a) the account in Exodus  b) the extent to which the writer of Exodus knew the locations, geography and other aspects of their escape from Egypt c)  the Memorial still kept by Jewish people.
  12. However, most Jews, keeping the Passover festival today, do so in a very different way from the one in Exodus or the one in the day of Jesus.
  13. Passover People will be making available materials enabling Jews, Christians and others who want to reconstruct the Passover kept by Jesus.
